I am in the early stages of designing a digital speedometer/odometer for my mountain bike. Based on a PIC16F628A microchip, it will be a very simple magnetic reed switch design with a MPH and Miles traveled readout. A simple reset button to reset the odometer.

Here is the preliminary schematic:
